** November 7th Tornadofest in Oklahoma ** - A CRAZY SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA AUTUMN OF MULTIPLE TORNADOES
On November 7th 2011.. John Hallen and others witnessed some powerful tornadic storms in Oklahoma. A rare event including an earthquake during the severe weather outbreak. A historic day of natures fury.
A day of glory and mixed decisions fortunately got corrected. The Hollis cell produced briefly.. then as I aborted the northwest storm, fortunately.. punched in through the neck of the hook east of Cooperton and got some good tornadic activity in open land.

2011 SEVERE SEASON WRAP-UP: SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH PROJECTS& MANY STRONG TORNADOES
This years chases yield multiple incidents of close range ground circulation of tornadoes. John documented "dozens" of violent tornadoes this season with a total count over "90" to date.. 57,000 miles traveled.. in 22 states for 2011.
John also intercepted Hurricane Irene direct inside the eyewall in late August. The last tornado witnessed was November 7th in southwest, Oklahoma.
SWS/SAR Chase dog "Terra" on site for 60 days this season. The dog participated in search and rescue and other duties. Breakthrough scientific data obtained by John & team this year will be analyzed in the off season for months. Case study data and 2012 planning/discussions in progress.

SEVERE INTERCEPTS IN IOWA & WISCONSIN APR 9-10: Many violent tornadoes were witnessed in IA.. including an uplanned encounter with an EF-2 in Nemaha, IA. We witnessed a 3 mile wide wedge, and a very close range of the berth timeline of the Mapleton tornado.
THE CHASES CONTINUED INTO LATE JUNE: More strong violent tornadoes witnessed in Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming and the Dakotas. Multiple close range observations documented this season for a record of severe tornadoes.

The Success of the Past Season "Raised the Bar" for SWS Teams' Objectives
ACCOMPLISHED CHASES- APRIL - JULY, 2011. With (3) chase vehicles this year, and the scout team proven in the field the year previous, 2011 played out with success in direct intercepts. Lots of opportunities for us to gather data and witness more tornadoes then ever imagined.
CERTIFED EMERGENCY RESPONDERS, SWS will be certified to assist others in a time of emergency in the event of a catastrophic tornadic destruction. SAR trained canine "Terra" was present for the third year The canines off season continued training was a total success. Terra did actual retrieval training in many destruction paths this year.
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, Successful probe cannon launches were performed ifor 2 seasons now. Continuation of this program will be focused on data retrieval in tornadic circulation. The real accomplishments were some unique analog measurements in June that will be analyzed for many months ahead.
VEHICLE TESTING PROGRAM. Amazing chaos describes some of the severe intercepts these cars went through. This testing was performed with for the purpose of the proper "scout" vehicles for the SWS fleet and a public awareness of vehicles that are safe in severe weather. Currently we have (3) of the safest vehicles in service at SWS. The utility Lexus RX, the Volvo 850 series, and the newest addition Volvo V40 wagon, provided reliability and safety while in the field for 2011.
